Avengers: Infinity War; The Fight for the Universe

5/11/2018

By Zach Kersh and David Toronto

(MAJOR Spoiler Alert) The Avengers Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, and Black Widow all come together for a final battle for the universe. Other heros joining the Avengers include, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, The Guardians of the Galaxy, and many others joining the battle against Thanos. Marvel has made clear that Thanos is different than other villians in the Marvel universe.
“And I will say that Thanos is without question the most difficult villain that the heroes have faced,” stated film director Joe Russo.

The plot of the movie is centered around the six infinity stones. Each stone has its own special power. When all six stones are put together, they can wipe out the universe. The goal of Thanos is to wipe out half of the universe. In order to do so, he hopes to achieve all six of these stones. The time, mind, soul, reality, power, and space stones are scattered throughout the universe. Once in awhile, the stones will pop up in a Marvel movie. For example, in Guardians of the Galaxy, the power stone is shown in Ronan’s staff. With the power stone in his staff, one strike to a planets surface could obliterate life on that planet. With Thanos on the prowl for the infinity stones, worlds are threatened with imminent destruction if Thanos were to succeed on his mad quest.

This film is a Marvel fan's nightmare. On Thanos’s journey to collecting all of the infinity stones he mows down The Avengers, character by character The Avengers were losing the war. Out of nowhere, Thanos succeeds in his mission and in turn creates the most surprising event possibly in the entire MCU(Marvel Cinematic Universe). Within two minutes, half of the Avengers have faded away, as well as half of the entire universe. Some significant deaths in Thanos’s rampage around the universe include, Gamora, Black Panther, Groot, Dr. Strange, Starlord, and the newest Avenger, Spiderman.

Glenelg Freshman Matthew Pysh believes, “It caught me off guard when they all died. I thought maybe one or two characters might die, but pretty much half of the Avengers ended up dying.” Most Marvel fans believed few characters would be killed. However, the large amount of deaths changes the entire war for the Avengers and greatly weakens their chances of victory.

All in all, Marvel's Infinity War will no doubt be the most emotional Marvel of all time. Glenelg Freshman Pierce Pushek was surprised since he believed “This has been the only movie that I saw in the theater… where I actually cried, everyone thought I was crazy.” In time, Marvel superfans will forget the tragic deaths of the characters and start focusing on final showdown between the wounded Avengers and the mighty Thanos coming out in May 2019.
