By: Spencer Gonce Dodge has a storied history of making fast, cheap, powerful cars with massive engines. The 5.7, 6.2, and 6.4-liter engines were their most popular to buy for big horsepower numbers and the sound that they made. However, Dodge stopped production of their V8 engines in late 2023 in wake of the new electric vehicle mandate. On top of that, a new electric charger was released in fall of 2024. The new electric Dodge Charger was meant to be appealing to car enthusiasts by adding features like a sound produced by speakers to imitate a sound from an engine, a powershot to get an extra 40 horsepower for a brief time, and line lock to warm tires. Even with these added features, the sales for the new electric Charger have been dismal. With such a rapid decline in customers, Dodge's parent company, Stellanits, has taken a bit of a financial dip due to the lack of sales. An easy solution? Add the old V8 engines to the Charger to keep the demand high for car enthusiasts. Putting the Hemi V8’s engines back in the Charger models could immediately increase sales. There would be no research and development needed, since Dodge has already developed and tested these engines and have put them in so many of their vehicles sold in the past. A number of car enthusiasts still want to buy an American made muscle car with a V8 engine under the hood. In late 2023, Chevy got rid of their Camaro, another major American muscle car with lots of heritage. The automotive manufacturers are stopping production of the options in this sector. The prevalence of V6 engines, 4-cylinder engines and electric cars increased, but few were sold. With the electric vehicle mandate lifted from the requirements of automotive manufacturers, Dodge can get back to what they are known for: their loud, true American-made V8 muscle cars.
