By Chase Hensing Post Malone's newest album dropped on April 27th, and fans are very excited after the long awaited release. Malone first announced the album last February saying it was set to be released by the end of last year, but didn't because he was trying to make sure the album is perfect for fans. He then sent out a tweet on April 4th, 2018 saying that it would come out on April 27th. The album features 18 songs including three of his already popular songs, “Rockstar”, “Psycho”, and “Candy Paint”. To preorder the album it will cost $12.99 for the mp3 and $11.99 for the Audio CD. The other six artists on the album are Swae Lee, 21 Savage, Ty Dolla Sign, Nicki Minaj, G-Eazy and YG.
I am giving the album a 9/10 for the most part because at least five of the songs on the album have already broken into or have the potential to break into the top twenty. Overall, the album has a very catchy beat and sets a good mood. My top five favorite songs on the album were “Ball For Me”, “Candy Paint”, “Blame It On Me”, “Rockstar”, and “Psycho” “Ball For Me” “Ball For Me” features Nikki Minaj and is a sort of love song, where Malone dedicates the song to his lovers and makes himself sound like a charming stud instead of the hard partying rapper we know him for. Throughout Malone’s verse he describes how thankful he is for his lover’s loyalty and says that he would spend lots of money on her for being so loyal. I think that adding Nikki Minaj to the song adds the perfect woman's part of the song to complete the very romantic song that Malone is not usually known for. “Candy Paint” “Candy Paint” I think deserves to be in the top five on the album solely for the reason of the amazing beat. Although the lyrics are not my favorite on the album, I do think the lyrics are much better than a lot of other rappers out there who rap about nothing and only worry about the beat. Malone writes about real things he has been experiencing and going through such as loss of family and friends, what it was like to becoming famous, and what it is like now that he is famous. Overall the song deserves a 9/10 because of the rhythm, I think it is a great song that you and all of your friends can rock out to in the car. Glenelg Freshman David Brown says “Candy Paint” is my favorite song on the album and has been my favorite song since it came out. It is a very catchy song.” The songs great beats and upbeat tempo mixed in with malones perfect harmony when he sings the chorus of “candy paint with the white on top” keeps fans listening. “Blame It On Me” “Blame It On me” is a about the harsh lifestyle of a rapper, but as the title suggests Malone blames no one but himself for choosing this lifestyle. The rhythm is fairly good, but nothing super special. I think the best part of this song is when Malone says, “These hurricanes inside of my brain, let it rain, made it look easy can’t look away, you love the pain, you love the pain.” This is a great line because it shows that he is going through a world of confusion of pain with many of his close friends turning away from him and eventually coming back just for the fame, he never knows who he can trust anymore. However he is willing to really open up in his songs about his hard times because his fans love learning about him. “Rockstar” “Rockstar” was destined to be a big hit before it even came out. The song features 21 Savage and was released before the album came out. The song blew up before the album was released and smashed billboards along with his song “Psycho”. The song is a great one, with the fast tempo and catchy chorus that comes back after every beat drop and lyrics describing his crazy life as a “Rockstar” really getting fans excited. I think this song comes out to be a 10/10 because tons of Malone’s fans and many others have fallen in love with it. “Psycho” “Psycho” is a masterpiece that Malone dropped before the release of his album and it blew up going directly to #2 on the billboard top 100 matching none other than his other hit “Rockstar”. It features big time rapper Ty Dolla $ign who raps along with Malone about the big time luxuries that they have in their life such as convertibles, expensive wrist watches, and other expensive jewelry. The song has a great beat that matches with the rest of the album perfectly. Although these are my personal top five favorite songs from the album, the other songs are also very exceptional songs. 10 of the 18 have landed on the top 100 within the first day of release. Glenelg Freshman Luke Welsh said “This is my favorite album that I have heard in a very long time. I feel like all the songs mash well together.” My question for you is do you think that Malone’s album lived up to the more than a year long hype? Comments are closed.
