By Brooke Taylor I saw Captain Marvel a Fantasy/Sci-Fi movie, recently released March 8, 2019 fittingly on International Women’s Day. Marvel's new release made $61.3 million on opening night. And is expected to bring in $130 million throughout opening weekend, Captain Marvel is produced by Marvel Studios’ and is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and Brie Larson stars as the role of Captain Marvel. The film is set in Los Angeles during the 1990s. This female hero, Captain Marvel, first appeared in the comic book series Marvel Super Heroes Volume 1 Issue 13 in 1968.
At the end of Marvel’s Infinity War released in 2018, it teased the release of Captain Marvel. This new story follows Carol Danvers aka Vers or Captain Marvel on a certain mission as she arrives on planet C-53 (Earth) and chases down the enemy. The longer she stays on earth, the more she soon realizes who she really is and begins piecing everything together. She then realizes she is universe's most powerful hero. We see how she gained her powers, how she ended up with the Kree, and what brought her into contact with Nick Fury, which all make up a big chunk of the movie. Another Marvel fan, Sophomore Jasman Sandhu says, “I saw the movie Saturday and it was so good it was also really funny Captain looked so good in the movie too.” The movie doesn’t just have great fight scenes it’s sure to make you laugh during any part of the runtime. The performance of each actor was engaging and captivating which played a big role in the outcome of the movie. Throughout the movie you see that Captain Marvel is portrayed as a powerful female and Brie Larson did a fantastic job capturing just how strong her powers are compared to other heroes. Larson took the first female lead in a Marvel movie and did an amazing job of acting the part of her character and pulls it off with style for the MCU. Matthew Thurnes a Glenelg Sophomore says, “I enjoyed the movie and my favorite part was when Captain would get caught in a fight.” Captain gets into many fights which are thrilling while she is showing off her amazingly strong powers like her hand blasters which she uses a lot in the movie. Since this movie takes place before any other Marvel movies like the first Iron Man or Infinity War it was a shocker to me because throughout this movie you see how it sets up major details in other storylines in Marvel movies. The most jaw dropping scene was seeing how the famous Nick Furry, head of the Avengers, got his notorious eyepatch. This movie is great in setting the pathway and explaining how everything comes into place for the Marvel universe. Released in the comics in 1968 we learned that Captain was a former officer in the air force and an extremely skilled fighter pilot and then gets turned into a soldier by the psyche- magnetron machine and became part Kree. In the movie yes, she is a fighter, but she does not get turned into Captain Marvel by a machine. In the movie she gets becomes a hero through an explosion. Big fans of the comics may not have liked this aspect as many marvel movies are starting to stray further and further from the original comic books. Marvel’s release is another thrilling movie that you should go see because it's downright awesome. Its a female power driven movie that is sure to impress you with its graphics. Don’t forget to wait for post-credit scenes because Captain Marvel actually has two post-credit scenes that are surely unexpected to any superhero fans out there so make sure you stay and enjoy every second.
