High school brings a lot of responsibility, especially when it comes to studying. It is your responsibility as a student to study in order to show your skills on an assessment. There are more tests and quizzes with a lot more information. It can often seem overwhelming, but if you remain focused and have a plan, studying can be a breeze. Try out some of these study tips to better enhance your studying or try one of the well-reviewed study apps. Both can improve study time and make the process of reviewing a little less stressful.

Study Tips:
  • Spread out studying over several days- don’t procrastinate
  • Review material right after class to make sure it is still fresh in your memory
  • Study right before going to bed- memory strengthens overnight
  • Put all study materials out at the same time
  • Recopy notes and material for repetition
  • Take breaks every half hour
  • Get some sleep the night before your test or quiz
Study Apps:
  • Self-Control to Focus: An app that helps block out distractions while studying. The app allows you to set a time limit for your studying and during that time you will not receive notifications from apps you have selected. Although it costs $.99, it is worth it if you have trouble putting down the phone to study.

  • AccelaStudy: This study device is helpful for learning a foreign language. It has different variations of the application dedicated to different languages. It can help with not only spelling, but pronunciation of the words as well. It also shows your progress so you know how you are improving. Depending on the language, prices may vary, but the majority are free.

  • StudyBlue: A cousin to Quizlet, StudyBlue allows you to create flashcards or use flashcards that teachers with accounts have made for your class. It allows you to work at your own pace and helps strengthen weak points.
    *Apple and Android devices*
  • Quizlet: This is one of the most popular apps for studying. Easy to use, various ways to review, and gives students access to flashcards made by their teachers and friends. Its free and great for studying on the go.

  • Forest: Although this app is not free ($1.99), it makes studying fun and helpful for the environment! The app times the length of your study sessions and then rewards you by growing a virtual tree. Over time, you can grow a whole forest and earn coins which can be used toward trees in the game or an actual tree to help protect the environment.
