Ben Jansen is graduating this year and will be attending the Miami University in Ohio where he plans to study mechanical engineering. He has been prepping for college life by taking college visits and even staying the night at his future school. His experience as Glenelg have also helped him as he prepares to move onto bigger and better things like college. Jansen also played on the Glenelg hockey team when they won the Howard Cup in his Junior year. By being involved in the Glenelg hockey team he has learned “how to interact with lots of people and learn respect.” Glenelg has prepared him academically as well, as he believed the vigorous class work he was assigned will help him adjust to college life more smoothly than other high schools. Jansen feels he is ready to be responsible for himself and is looking forwards for the freedom that he will be granted.

Jansen has taken advantage of Glenelg’s different programs to embrace him for college. In order to prepare for his major, he said that “Applied Research Labs (ARL) systems and management prepared me and made me realize that mechanical engineering was what I wanted to do”. When discussing how ARL will help him in college, Jansen said “It will place me ahead in my engineering classes”. Being able to get to the top of classes in college is very important nowadays. The ARL programs allowed him to realize what he wants to do for a career and help him accomplish his ultimate goal for his future, which he said is to “be as successful in my life as I possibly can”. In order to achieve his goal he mentioned, “I see myself working a good job with a big business”. By preparing for his major early on, Jansen has set himself up for a positive college career as a student and eventually to have a successful career. Overall, Jansen only wished he did better on his ACT exam and tried for better grades his Freshmen and Sophomore year, but he is excited for college life and is well prepared for his future.
