Chaz Studdard: A Spirited Senior

5/8/2017

By: Jackie Lyons

After four years of “iconic spirit day looks”, Chaz Studdard may very well be one of Glenelg High School’s most spirited students. To many, his most memorable outfit occurred this year’s color day, where he was head to toe in red, complete with a wig and leg warmers.  Ever since freshman year, Studdard has looked forward to Glenelg’s spirit week because it gave him a chance to be creative and design whatever he wanted. He encourages future students to participate in years to come.

Next year, Studdard will be attending California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) and majoring in engineering. He’s excited to leave Maryland and start a new chapter in his life in San Luis Obispo, where he plans on making new friends and getting a well paying job. Looking back on his high school career, he believes Glenelg has done a great job in preparing him for college because, “it’s taught me how to get work done in a crunch and how not to feel alone when I’m the minority.” In addition to being incredibly spirited, Studdard was also a member of the Cross Country team and will miss memories such as making snowmen and being attacked by birds. Even though he had a great experience being in Cross Country, he does not think he will be playing any sport in college and will mainly be focusing on engineering. Over the summer, he will be attending a mission trip where he thinks he can make new friends. Studdard wants the future students at Glenelg to take his advice: “Don’t be afraid to make new friends and cut out old ones, spend more time focusing on college, take as many APs as possible, final grade A is more important than quarter grade, and minimum work for maximum efficiency.”
