“I’m not fat, I’m cultivating mass.” This is the comical answer you will get from Glenelg senior Brian Doughty if you joke about his weight. He is not in fact fat but likes to poke fun at himself. Doughty is an easygoing person who has a contagious personality, and never ending jokes. He played both lacrosse and football all four years at Glenelg. He has decided he will be attending the University of Maryland College Park. He chose college park because “it’s close to home”, and has a great business department, which is what he will be studying there. He is great at making friends quickly, so the size of Maryland doesn't frighten him at all, and neither do the classes since he is a diligent, hard working student. He revealed the thing he dreads most about college is the class sizes. He is used to working with his teachers and getting to know them, but with class sizes at Maryland being very large, he thinks this could cause some problems.

When reflecting life at Glenelg, he has a lot of fond memories. He said out of his four years though, his best memory of Glenelg was beating Howard High School in football on senior night. “Just finally beating them after years of coming so close, and doing it at home on Senior night makes it that much more special. Even though he was seriously hurt early in the game, the satisfaction that came from coming out on top was enough to subdue the pain. The thing he says he learned from each was that never count yourself out, and to push through every obstacle put in your way.

People who know Doughty through sports known he is a charismatic athlete and great leader. “I have always been outgoing, so being a good leader came naturally to me”. This lacrosse season Brian has the opportunity to play with his younger brother Michael on varsity. Brian said “ It’s a fun experience, having the ability to practice and play with him is something different that I really like”.While attending Glenelg, Doughty believes the teacher that influenced him the most at Glenelg was Mrs. Doermann because she taught him an important life lesson, which is always maximize your effort, talent, and intelligence. “Winning a State Championship” is the one thing he wished he could have done while at Glenelg. Its obvious sports are a big part of his life and he will take the lessons he learned from there and other places with him in life, and make a success out of himself.
