Emma Buch: A Look Into Her Life

5/8/2017

By Hannah Butera

Meet Senior Emma Buch! She is the epitome of a well-rounded student, as she  participates in a multitude of the clubs and sports offered at Glenelg.  Among these are Key Club, National Honors Society, Future Business Leaders of America, SGA, Gladiators on the horizon, varsity tennis, and varsity volleyball.  Reflecting on her four years at Glenelg, Buch explained, “ My favorite part of highschool was attending the football games with all of my friends. Those are the memories I will hold on to forever”.  Buch looks forward to graduation, as she feels it is an important milestone and a representation of all of the time and effort she put into her high school years.  Buch is attending Penn State University in the fall, where she will study kinesiology.  In ten years, Buch aspires to have her own physical therapy practice.  Thanks to the opportunities Glenelg bestows, she is off to a good start.

Buch is in Glenelg’s intern/mentorship program which helped her to get her internship at Violand & McNerney Physical Therapy.  At her internship, Buch is given the opportunity to shadow different therapists, interact with patients, and observe how certain conditions are treated.  Most importantly, her internship has helped her to confirm that physical therapy is something she wants to pursue for the rest of her life.  “It has also given me awesome real life experience before college which most students don’t have,” said Buch. The program has given Buch a sense of what it would be like to be a physical therapist. Buch said, “I have gotten to interact with patients, learn about having your own practice, and gotten the opportunity to work with different equipment”.  Buch explained how the mentorship class requires extensive research which is transformed into a final project, which she feels has further prepared her for college.
