Seniors in high school are now trying to decide where they are going to college. Many students know where they are going and what they are going for, but also a lot of the students don’t know where they are going to college yet. Katie Grimm is a Senior at Glenelg High School she will be attending University of Alabama in the fall. Grimm plans to attend college as a nursing major. Grimm has a cool background going into college because she’ll be a legacy for two sororities.
There are many factors to consider when deciding which college you want to go to. Some of the factors Grimm considered was if the campus made her feel like she was at home and made her feel comfortable. She ended up deciding on University of Alabama because “Junior year she fell in love with the school spirit and the community”.  A big thing for new students who are attending college their first year is finding a roommate, Grimm has already and her roommate is joining a sorority as well. People that want to join a sorority also have factors to consider like pricing and how many events they expect you to attend. Factors Grimm is watching out for while looking at sororities is if the girls match her personality and also if they make her feel welcome, Also money is a factor as well because sorority’s in the south are expensive.
A lot of people in college have a difficult time balancing school work and other activities. Grimm plans to maintain her grades and still be in a sorority by focusing on her school work and then doing the other activities, Grimm thinks being in a sorority will help her because  “ The sororities push their sisters to maintain good grades so they help each other will their academics”. Sorority life can also make you a better person,  she believes that it shape’s her to be a better person because “ It would create a family (sister) relationships and make friends who you can talk to about anything”.
A legacy of a Sorority is when people that are related to you have been a member before you were. With Grimm being a legacy that means that she has a much higher chance of getting accepted into a sorority. Both Grimm’s mom and sister have been in a sorority, Grimm’s mom was in Alpha Delta Phi and Grimm’s sister is still currently in Delta Gamma. Grimm still does not know which she would like to join out of those two, she loves either option but she would have to meet the sisters of the sorority to decide.
Sorority life can help you learn so much and could also potentially help you with future jobs. Katie made a good point that it could help you with future jobs because “ The older girls could help you meet people in the community and help get you an internship if they have the same major”. Being in a sorority also makes you feel more at home and more comfortable and more involved.
Grimm choose to go to Alabama University because she liked that college the most out of all of the schools she chose from. There are many things to look for and choose from when finding the college that is right for you. But you will be happy once you decide which college makes you happy and feel welcome.
