We are a chapter of the national High School Democrats organization, and we aim to provide a platform for student involvement in Democratic politics. We help students organize, stay informed, and participate in electing Democratic candidates to local, state, and national office, while advocating for issues that matter to them most.
In the past, our club has hosted guest speakers including Board of Education candidates and the Maryland State Senator from our district. We participated in phone banking for the 2020 elections, and this past fall we hosted a postcard writing event for the off-year election in Virginia. We continue to promote other volunteer opportunities to our members to help everyone get involved in our community. Everyone is welcome to join, regardless of political affiliation. Whether it’s web design or entrepreneurship, FBLA caters to the interests of various students. Glenelg’s FBLA meets twice a month, every other Thursday from 2:15 to 3:00 after school.
FBLA’s meetings consist of discussing future competitions, meeting guest speakers from the business world, and working in committees to strengthen the collaboration and impacts of our club. Each year, FBLA attends three competitions: regionals, state, and nationals. Last year, multiple members placed in the state competition and moved on to nationals. This year, over 20 people placed in regionals and ready for states! The sponsor of Glenelg’s FBLA club, Kathryn Delaney, has uplifted our members towards success using her previous experience in business and culinary. The executive board of FBLA, the officers, Harshia Bhagat, David Liu, Gaurav Sharma, Veronica Benedict, Rukmini Gadam, and Ethan Sexton are all dedicated to spreading the creativity and problem-solving that comes with business. FBLA is dedicated to helping students align their interests with a competitive category and future career choice! The eSports Club is a group that brings together students in our community to compete against each other and ultimately against other students across the county.
