Curing Boredom during Quarantine

5/27/2020

By Saumyaa Gupta

During this stressful time and staying at home, many students and others are bored with nothing to do at their houses. For students who are bored, there are many different ways to be occupied.

Redoing the same things over and over again, such as watching the same tv shows and movies multiple times in a row can get very boring. Not only that doing the same routine every day can become uneventful.

A great way to not be bored is to go out for a walk.  Just because students can not go anywhere does not mean that they can not enjoy the fresh air, especially since summer is approaching soon. Also, when students had school, they may not have been able to work out as much. This may be because of the amount of schoolwork or extracurriculars. But now since school has changed to a more adjustable schedule, going on a walk or a run is perfect. Not only that there are many benefits to walks or runs. For example, it is a great stress reliever. With everything going on, a walk is a great way to clear a student’s head.

Another way to not be bored is to watch throwback shows or movies. Watching childhood shows can be enjoyable. Some throwbacks show or movies can bring back some positive memories and a good laugh. Students can watch throwbacks on Disney Plus, Netflix, etc.

Some throwback shows to watch, like Hannah Montana or That’s So Raven can bring back nostalgia. A GHS student named Avishi Garg talks about what has she been watching while staying at home. Garg says, “I am watching a lot more Netflix and I am watching TV shows and movies that I have been wanting to watch for a really long time”. Due to movie theatres being closed, many new movies that just came out are now on Itunes or Google Play. So watching new movies can be another thing to do while staying at home. Also being able to watch movies at home can actually be sometimes better. For example, students can enjoy watching a movie right from their bed or couch. Also, students do not need to pay a lot of money on tickets or movie theatre food because tickets and food from a theatre can sometimes be a bit pricey.

During quarantine, there are many new things to try out. Another GHS student named Herleen Chahil talks about what she has been doing at home. Chahil says, “I like baking, hanging out with my family, learning new things, etc”. While at home a great thing to try is maybe making some trendy food, like Whipped Coffee. For students who like coffee, whipped coffee has been a very trendy recipe to make. Another thing students can do is explore new hobbies. An example of some hobbies could be painting or maybe reading. Also, sleeping in one day could be a good thing. When there was school, students had to wake up very early, and maybe on weekends, there had been some extracurriculars that meant students could not sleep in. Sleeping in is a great way to catch up on sleep that students may not have gotten before.

Even though this time can be very difficult, doing one of these things with either family or friends via video calls can be a great way to not be bored.
