By Alexis Kominos Halloween is just right around the corner, and teenagers may not be keen to the idea of trick-or-treating anymore. But what do you do when trick-or-treating is not the go-to plan? If high schoolers really want to get scared and get in the Halloween spirit, haunted houses are a great idea. Throughout Maryland, there are plenty of places to go and get spooked this spooky season. Field of Screams-
This attraction located at 4501 Olney Laytonsville Rd, Olney, MD 20832, is one of the most popular horror attractions in Maryland, and is home to the Haunted Trail, Trail of Terror, Slaughter Factory, and Hades Hayride. A ticket for all four of the attractions is 35 dollars. Tickets for the individual attractions aries between 16 dollars and 20 dollars. The Haunted Hayride takes you through all of Field of Screams with terrifying houses with props, sounds, and animation. The Trail of Terror is a 30-minute walk through the forest with haunted houses dotted throughout the trail. The Slaughter Factory is a horrifying factory that takes people through a slaughterhouse with guts, gore, and blood. Lastly, Hades Hayride is a ride through a haunted cornfield. There are various spots where horror awaits in the darkness of the cornfield. Kamryn Payne, a Junior at Glenelg High school, who has been to Field of Screams exclaims that she, “likes the scary people that always do a good job. The makeup affects and set up is all really good. [She] loves the rush and adrenaline of being scared in person, and being a part of the action first hard really makes the experience better.” Field of Screams is well put together with amazing effects and frightening scenarios. It is for sure a good place to go for those that crave the rush. https://www.fieldofscreams.com/ Laurel’s House of Horrors- Located at 935 Fairlawn Ave, Laurel, MD 20707, Laurel’s House of Horrors has many attractions and offers an unnerving experiences for everyone. Tickets are available starting at the end of September. There is not only a haunted house that is very spine-tingling and realistic, but there are also a series of escape room’s as well. A general admission ticket is 25 dollars. Tickets on halloween cos more and can be found on the website. In one escape room, the theme is American Horror Story, and it has all the seasons of AHS incorporated into one escape room. Another escape room is Jigsaw themed, which is the horror franchise with traps and gore.. Lastly, there is a Stranger Things themed escape room that brings people into the Upside Down. Many people have been to haunted houses, but Laurel’s House of Horrors is less known. Taylor Berry, a Junior at Glenelg High school says, “[I] love haunted houses and [I] love the thrill that they bring me. [I] have been to Field of Screams, but [I] really want to experience something new that is exciting and scarier.” With a wide variety of attractions and horror for this Halloween season, Laurel’s House of Horrors may just be the place to go. https://laurelhaunt.com Legends of the Fog- This hair-raising location is a lot like Field of Screams in that it has separate things to do based on what people are in to. Legends of the Fog is located at 500 Carsins Run Rd, Aberdeen, MD 21001. Tickets for this attraction is 30 dollars and a fastpass to get in front on the lines is 10 dollars. There is the Classic Haunted Hayride that is the longest attraction that brings big groups together to experience a fright altogether. The next attraction is the Farewell Hotel which is a haunted house full of screams and horror. It has more than 70 different doors to enter at your own risk! Next is the Cornstalkers Haunted Maze. The Cornstalkers, frightening people who stalk others throughout the maze, mess around with all that go through. Lastly, there is the Sinister Circus which takes people through a tent full of fearsome circus frights. Legends of the Fog is a great Halloween experience with different attractions for every type of person. https://www.legendsofthefog.com/ The Nevermore Haunt- The Nevermore Haunt which is located at 450 Mott St, Baltimore, MD 21202, has two different attractions. One is simply the Nevermore Haunt but everything about it is not so simple. Sinister sights and terrifying creatures torment the visitors that dare to enter one of Baltimore’s oldest and scariest warehouses. Next is Isaac’s Maleficent Sideshow. People can enjoy food and drinks while being surrounded by magicians, and performances, all frightening and none for the weak-hearted.
