By Chase Hensing & Zach Kersh This year, Father’s Day falls on Sunday, June 17th. Father’s Day is a perfect opportunity to help your dad enjoy his day. Fathers do so much for their family, it is only right to give back to them. There are many ways to make the day great for him. Here are a few of our favorites. Word portrait: Compile a list of lots of words that you believe define your father. Arrange them in a pattern that depicts the word “DAD.” Your father will love seeing all the thoughtful words and phrases that you took time to make. Sometimes, the best gifts are the simplest.
New golf balls or tennis balls: These gifts can vary depending on what your father enjoys doing. If you know they enjoy playing tennis or golf and they need their equipment replaced, replace it. They will appreciate the new equipment and realize the compassion you have for them. Offer to help around the House: Most children have to do chores around the house; however, the parents still tend to do a majority of the work. So, on holidays to celebrate appreciation for your parents, offer to help out a little extra. Some things you could offer to help with if, you don’t already do them, is vacuuming, washing the dishes, doing the laundry, or washing the car however yard work will always be helpful. Make him a meal: Parents usually make food for their children every day. However, constantly providing food is a pretty tough job Offer to repay the favor and make a meal for your parents. You don’t just have to limit your present to one meal; instead you can make meals for the whole day. Get him sports game tickets: While not every dad loves sports, many are fascinated by them. It is something that a father and child can bond over. The experiences and memories made by going to the stadium and taking part in being a fan bring lots of joy. Since baseball is the only sport going on right now if your dad likes baseball and his favorite team is local it would not be hard to take him to a game. Leisure Trip: Most busy dads would appreciate a day of relaxation. At the same time, they also enjoy having fun with their family. A fun family bonding trip is one that involves both relaxation and entertainment. Fishing, going to the beach, or seeing a movie are all great ideas. Glenelg Freshman Christian Amaya said, “My dad and I usually try and do something together, the past few years we have gone fishing. But this year I want to go paintballing.” Paintballing is a good father and son activity since it is thrilling and requires teamwork. Overall, Father’s Day isn’t about how expensive of a gift you buy or even if you get him a present. Instead, Father’s Day is just about letting your father know how much you appreciate and care about him, though gifts can do this. Glenelg Freshman Nathaniel Sawitzki said “Usually [my family and I] don’t buy anything for our father; we just spend the whole day with him and we know he appreciates it more than any present.” Nathaniel believes that Father’s Day isn’t just about the giving of presents; it is about how you spend the day with your dad and making sure he enjoys your company.
