The start of March means the kickoff of the highly anticipated Paris Fashion Week 2017. Consisting of recognizable names as well as less notable ones, the Ready To Wear PFW did not disappoint the industry. With audiences from across the globe, brands such as Reem Acra, Balenciaga, Vetements, and Chanel brought their A-game with clothes illustrated by their creative minds hailed as the epitome of designers. Many teenagers and adults look to these yearly RTW shows for inspiration in the coming seasons, such as Natalie Proviano, a Junior at Glenelg who states that, “I enjoy following up on fashion weeks, mostly because I enjoy seeing new unique styles presented at them… I get lots of ideas as to how I can manipulate my wardrobe to imitate new styles”. Although each show released uniquely breathtaking looks, there was a significant pattern in the trends displayed throughout the leading labels. After a lengthy analysis of all the big-name designers and some unknowns, here are the most fashionable street trends to look out for this Fall 2017. Trench Coats Maybe this term brings up memories of chic business CEOs, or maybe it screams of the beloved movie, The Breakfast Club. Whatever your outlook on this clothing style, its undeniable rise is unrivaled. Seen in shows ranging from Aalto, Givenchy, Hermès, Miu Miu, Ellery, and Stella McCartney, trench coats are a fixed staple for every wardrobe this coming autumn. These versatile overcoats can be worn with dresses, suits, sweatpants, or crisp blouses to fit anyone’s daily style necessities. While Ellery opted for masculine, grey coats, Hermès showcased sunny yellow, white, and navy styles. If you allow only one impulse buy this year, make it a boyish trench coat made perfect for long city strides. High Necklines Whether it be turtlenecks or high ruffled collars, these necklines represent a crisp, professional look many people strive to attain. Also providing warmth for the chilling autumnal air, this trend brings about a breeze of haute couture for any fashion-savvy person to achieve easily. Balmain ensures the prominence of this style through utilizing halter tops, chunky sweater necks, and dark fabrics reminiscent of the popular trend of chokers. Over this past fall, high necklines were incredibly popular, especially among teenagers such as Megan Lydon, a Sophomore who remarks “it [the trend] offers a more conservative and sleek look… I think the reason for it [being] so popular was because it’s a unique look and different from past seasons”. Without a doubt, this fashion statement is capable of transforming any outfit from ordinary to cosmopolitan, and of revamping any person’s closet to a cutting-edge, modernized look. Fur Featured on Elie Saab’s runway as vivid purple and blue bird-like capes, faux fur seems to be a fiery trend that mimics all sorts of enchanting wildlife. After a long time of cheetah and leopard print reigning the fashion world, a new, tropical aura has been brought about. Certainly craved by the wealthy and fashion-forward at one time, fur still remains prominent among designers. Rodarte showcased chic black and white fur, reminding the fashion community that simplistic colors will always be in style. Nowadays, faux fur allows for a more attainable, affordable, and animal-minded take on this runway trend, which is sure to make waves on streets. Leather & Velvet Both of these materials were extremely prevalent in various shows such as Christian Dior, Balmain, Akris, and Saint Laurent. Dark and stern, these trends can be paired with feminine blouses, jeans, or band tees to give any outfit power. Although these daring fabrics may scare people away out of unfamiliarity, give black leather pants or navy blue velvet jackets a chance to surprise you. Capes Given way through its rise in 2016, capes have come to be a striking statement of strength and empowerment. With their sharp shoulders and lengthy trains, capes are evolving into the more feminine blazer seen on the likes of model Chrissy Teigan. Johanna Ortiz, a rising designer, works to introduce this clothing trend into her repertoire, through a sophisticated, plaid piece. Other labels, such as Aalto and Louis Vuitton, produced clothing with cape-esque shoulders or small capes that give a gentle nod to this attractive style that anyone can pull-off.
