The New Year has officially begun, and with it comes fresh, cutting-edge clothes and styles that will reign what the world sees as trendy. The first major fashion show of 2017 was over the weekend of January 6-9 in London, England, releasing all the new menswear for Autumn/Winter of 2017. Designers, both hardened in experience or uprising in the fashion world, gathered to display their collections and sell their brand. One stunning show presented on Saturday, January 7 was constructed by the designer and brand, Oliver Spencer. After being established in 2002, Oliver Spencer grew to become an internationally-known brand, making sophisticated, modern clothes casual enough for the everyday man. Each garment designed by Oliver Spencer utilizes the significant details in mundane menswear, only then to fabricate those styles into uniquely eclectic and blasé ones. The label’s latest runway show did not disappoint on their distinctively classic image, so here’s the low-down on Oliver Spencer’s newest collection. The show was a compilation of eclectic, old-time English style turned chic and contemporary. Whether one looks for clothes that could transition from night to day, business to casual, striking to neutral, Oliver Spencer’s line carried all of these ideals. Their show was the epitome of the normal guy on the street catching the eyes of a regular girl, just through wearing breathtaking, distinctive clothes. Oliver Spencer’s fashion show embodied not only whimsicality, but diversity. Each model looked unique, either through figure, facial structure, race, or most of all, age. While some models looked to be in their early 20s, others were in their 50s or 60s. This blatant age gap goes to prove fashion doesn’t wane with age, and that Oliver Spencer is able to display this everlasting style through all-around, everyday inspiration. Oliver Spencer takes much of his inspiration from English architecture, applying crisp cuts and blatant color-blocking. The major color scheme of his newest clothing line is composed of burgundy, stark grays and dark blues, peach, burnt orange, and woodsy browns; all of which create an inherent winter aesthetic apparent to even the most fashion-fatigued people. As far as designs and materials go, there was no shortage of twill, plaid, velvet, stripes, or fur-lined collars, which all contributed to the fabrication of a “uniquely British take on relaxed style” (GQ Magazine) which Oliver Spencer is known for. These trends may also be a signal as to what will come in this fashion New Year. Will menswear rise through the styles of both genders? Will Oliver Spencer’s contemporary, yet timeless English theme transfer over into the daily wardrobes of modern men? Only time will tell what will truly come of 2017’s fashion and trends, but it can confidently be said that Oliver Spencer’s collection will ignite a newfound style in men and women alike of all ages. After all, as stated by the genius designer himself, “For me, Oliver Spencer is about being yourself while being smart, being distinctive, being comfortable. I want to make clothes that you can adopt and inhabit. Clothes you can live in, clothes you can do things in”. In conclusion, I’d say this New Fashion Year has begun with a stylish start thanks to Oliver Spencer’s new striking collection.
