By Justin Robertson With summer fastly approaching, Glenelg students will have more free time for fun experiences, such as going to the movies. The 2018 summer will be full of sensational new movies coming to theatres that appeal to all kind of genres. On June 8, 2018, Oceans 8 is releasing in theatres. The movie follows a group of women attempting to heist the Met Gala in New York City. Though heist movies are typically driven towards suspense, Oceans 8 supposedly contains comedy that could add a humorous element to the movie. Exactly one week following the release of Oceans 8, teenagers and millenials will be able to visit their early childhoods once again. The Incredibles 2 is being released June 15 and has Glenelg students incredibly excited. Glenelg Sophomore Callie Anderson said, “I’ve been waiting for this movie for the last ten years. [The Original] is my favorite Pixar movie ever.” The plot follows Elastigirl becoming the main superhero in the Incredibles family, while Mr. Incredible, Bob, is stuck filling the role of a stay-at-home parent. However, when a new villain appears the whole family has to unite to defeat him and save the world. Despite the original movie being released nearly 14 years ago, the sequel is still developing joy and eagerness in people of all ages
Next, one of the most famous movie series, Jurassic Park, will add another film to its repertoire with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. This marks the fifth film in the installment that originally started in 1993. Glenelg Sophomore Drew Sotka said, “Based on the preview, the new Jurassic Park movie looks a lot better than the previous one.” The story follows Owen, played by Chris Pratt, and Claire, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, going back to the abandoned theme park from the previous movie. While they try to save the dinosaurs from extinction, a volcano begins to erupt, making this a very difficult and suspenseful task. For the sports movie fans, Uncle Drew should provide great entertainment. Creating a well known sports movie like Space Jam or Remember the Titans is arduous, but the film featuring NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving could live up to the hype. Originally a Pepsi commercial, the Uncle Drew plot centers around a disguised NBA player, such as Irving, to dress up as an old man and dominate in street basketball. When the numerous commercials became very popular, the production company decided to make a movie out of it. The movie is planned to be in theatres on June 29. Additionally, the well known movie series, Mission - Impossible, starring Tom Cruise, will add the sixth movie to the series on July 27. Mission: Impossible - Fallout follows the story of Ethan Hunt, played by Cruise, being hunted by assassins and former allies. Just like the previous Mission- Impossible movies, this movie will have plenty of action-packed scenes and a dangerous villain. Fans of action and adventure movies will want to see this film, as it could be 55 year-old Cruise’s last movie in the series. Some other highly-anticipated movies that are being released this summer include the following: Sicario 2: Soldado (June 29), Sorry to Bother You (July 6), Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6), and Christopher Robin (August 3). With all of these movies being released in the coming months, it is safe to say that Glenelg students will have plenty of entertainment to enjoy before school starts up again in the fall.
