Creative Costume Ideas for Halloween 2018

10/30/2018

By Zachary Kersh & David Toronto

As the warmth of summer is swept away by autumn winds, people's minds shift from summer sun to fall fun. Halloween is rapidly approaching and people are preparing by decorating their houses and purchasing pounds of candy.
A big problem people have is trying to decide what to dress as for Halloween, but the year of 2018 has introduced many unique characters and trends to dress as and show off to your friends.

Superheroes and Villains
One creative costume idea is superheroes and supervillains. Many popular movies have been released in 2018 displaying jaw-dropping heros/villans. For example, Venom from the new Venom movie that was released October 5th, is a great option. The sharp-tooth, long-tongued menace,Venom, is a truly scary costume for Halloween. Glenelg Sophomore Kevin Pak says, “I am going to be Venom for Halloween, after seeing the movie, I knew it was the costume for me.” Pak plans to purchase his costume from Party City.

Any Avenger would be an amazing costume for Halloween. With the release of the movie, Avengers: Infinity War, back in April 2018, The Avengers name and popularity have skyrocketed ever since. Big names, like Iron Man, Hulk, Black Panther, Thor, Captain America, and many more, are all viable options for a Halloween costume. Not to mention, the Avengers could also be used in a group costume of superheroes or villains for an added effect on Halloween.

Killmonger, from the highest grossing film in 2018 thus far, Black Panther, is perfect for Halloween. These terrifying super-villains are great personas to take on for Halloween. This year so many influential movies have released, pumping the internet full of new ideas for costumes. On this Halloween night, superheros and supervillains will be running rampant throughout the streets. Since so many people will be dressed as superheroes and villains, a fun and creative idea could be group costumes.

Group
Group costumes are bland individually; however, as a group they are extremely interesting. A group could possibly be thing one and thing two, popular book characters by Dr. Seuss. Another group costume idea that is sure to excite a crowd could be the two girls from the movie White Chicks. Finally, an idea that could be performed by more than two people could be ninja turtles. Simply wear green attire, with a cardboard shell on the back, and have each ninja turtle wear a different colored bandana.

Inflatable
Another unique costume idea are inflatable costumes. Recently, the internet has been fascinated with inflatable costumes, such as a T-Rex, sumo wrestler, food product, and other endless possibilities! These costumes are different than regular costumes. Glenelg Sophomore Niko Garbis stated, “I wore an inflatable sumo wrestler one year. A lot of people commented on it. They’re comical, though a little bit uncomfortable.” It sets people apart from their peers and others around them. In addition, these costumes are inexpensive and simple, yet stylish and humorous. Any inflatable outfit is sure to be a hit for Halloween night.

Athletes
Finally, a great costume idea for sports fans is to dress up as a famous athlete. A soccer costume could consist of the necessary shin guards and cleats, as well as high socks with the player’s jersey. A football player costume would include the jersey and helmet, and football pants. To achieve an added flare, wear pads underneath the jersey and pants. These costumes are cost effective and exciting to compare each others’ sports’ interests. One is sure to impress others with their realistic football or soccer player costume this Halloween.

This year the creativity for Halloween costumes is immaculate. From famous athletes to terrifying super-villains, this Halloween should be one for the books.
