Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

After nine years of waiting, nine years away from the town of Stars Hollow, “Gilmore Girls” fans were graced with a familiar voice, Lorelai Gilmore, during the opening credits of the highly anticipated Gilmore Girls revival. It began with the first words ever spoken in the pilot episode of Gilmore Girls as Lorelai entered Luke’s Diner saying, “Please, Luke, please, please, please.”

“How many cups of coffee have you had this morning?” echoed Luke Danes. Fans were immediately engaged and brought right back into Stars Hollow. The opening credits continued to play the most memorable quotes from the show. This lead right into the opening scene where fans were finally reunited with the stars of the show, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, together at last.

The revival included four episodes titled “Winter,” “Spring,” “Summer,” and “Fall,” each taking place in the corresponding season. The episode titles reference the chorus of the song “You’ve Got a Friend” by Carole King, the singer and writer of the show’s theme song, “Where You Lead.” While this may seem like an underwhelming amount of episodes for another season of the show, each episode is ninety minutes long, roughly twice as long as episodes from the show’s original seven seasons.

Fans were yet again able to catch up with the cast of the show when a surprising amount of the members were available for filming. Over thirty members returned, only leaving eight out of the new season. Their absence, however, did not leave the cast members short of any actors. Twenty-six guest stars appeared on the show in their place. Many actors from singer and songwriter Carole King to Tony Award winning Christian Borle. Many actors were eager to participate.

With all of the guests stars and drama in the revival, it would have been easy for the writer of the show, Amy Sherman-Palladino, to let the unanswered questions from the original series remain unanswered. Palladino, however, did a great job tying up loose ends. Questions like “What happens to Rory’s love life?” “Do Luke and Lorelai ever get married?” “What happens to Jess?” are all answered. If you haven't seen the revival yet, let me you tell you, you won't be disappointed. It won't take long for you to get wrapped up in the drama and lost in the town of Stars Hollow.
