By Alexis Kominos Throughout history there have been many new innovations with technology. In this generation, new ideas are constantly being brought to life. 8D Audio is one of those new innovations that will change the future of technology. The concert experience is surreal and the music surrounds people from all angles. But what happens if one wants to encounter the feeling of the music encompassing every sense more often? 8D Audio can bring that experience to life on a phone with the click of a few buttons.
8D Audio consists of a group of sound effects that change the sound in speakers, or headphones to enable listeners to hear music from eight different directions. The sounds give the effect that the music travels from side to side and from the front to back, and even above and below. There are Youtube videos that have examples of 8D Audio where you can listen to sound effects like knocking, cars starting, water being poured, and much more. 8D Audio can bring the listener into the real scene of what's happening in the video, letting them experience an amazing realistic effect. There is a huge process going into created 8D music. It deals with sound waves, frequencies, and Audio nerves. The waves of sound are all in different frequencies’ which reaches Audio nerves in people’s ears at different times, and different spots. The elements people hear with the music, bounces off the left and right ear inside of the head as opposed to normal music, which is mostly utilized in the outside 3-D space outside of the head. Surround sound should not be confused with 8D Audio. It utilizes many different speakers to play sound effects depending on where they are in a video. 8D utilizes many different pieces of Audio to create a realistic headphone experience. Not only are there videos with scenes and situations, but there is music that is adapted to fit 8D, which makes the listener feel like they are at concert. Scenes and situations consist of a walk-through story with sound effects utilized in 8D Audio. Opposed to a scene or story, there is music that feels as if it reaches every part of the brain as well. For example, if a band with many different instruments is playing, then listeners will be able to hear the exact positions of the artists and if they move around. Phylleisha Demby, a Junior at Glenelg High School, talks about a concert she went to, and what the experience was like saying, “ I went to a Chris Brown concert, and the music experience was amazing. I have never listened to 8D Audio, but I would love to try it out. I bet it would bring me back to that moment. Having a concert like experience from a phone would be great.” Utilizing this new innovation in music brings new emotions and experiences to the listener during any time of day. YouTube accounts have used real songs from artists of all kinds of music, and adapted it to be 8D. For example, there are YouTube accounts like “8D Tunes” takes popular songs by artists like Ariana Grande, Twenty One Pilots, Mac Miller, Blackbear, and so many more and modifies them into 8D Audio. Another Youtube account called, “Trillion- 8D Music” does the same thing with more songs. Ethan Chappell, a Senior at Glenelg High School listened to “Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. It sounded like I was in a room with speakers everywhere. It was more than just earbuds and the music was inside my head coming from all directions.” A shown from someone that has listened to 8D Audio, it is a noticeable and better difference compared to normal music. Inventors constantly surprise humankind with the innovations they create. The possibilities seem endless with all the inventions constantly being put together throughout time. Utilizing many different tools and strategies, 8D Audio provides a concert-like experience by the use of headphones and a click of a few buttons. It is a great way to bring your mind into another place entirely and have your brain encompassed by nothing but the music. Comments are closed.
