By Kyle Gonce On Feb. 9, Nintendo posted its latest Nintendo Direct, which revealed several games that are planned to come out in the first half of 2022. Many fans, myself included, were pleased with the announcements that came from the direct. While there was over 40 minutes of information during the direct, some of the highlights are as follows: Super Mario Strikers returns for a brand new game: Super Mario Strikers is a game that was nearly forgotten about, until now. First released for the Gamecube in 2005, and then as a sequel for the Wii in 2007, this will be the first title for this series in 15 years! Super Mario Strikers: Battle League aims to bring back the series in new ways. For example, people can create an online club to join up with other players and team up to score points. Another example is the new gear system, which allows the player to customize their character and give them abilities that fit their needs. This was an insane reveal that nobody saw coming! Super Mario Strikers: Battle League releases on June 10, 2022. Splatoon 3: Salmon Run Next Wave Splatoon 3 has already been one of Nintendo’s most hyped up games this year, and this next announcement did not disappoint. Returning from the second game, Splatoon 3 returns the player vs enemy game mode, with a few new additions. While most of the main gameplay remains the same, two (well, three maybe) new bosses and a new mechanic. The first new boss is called the “Fish Stick.” It places a bar down on the battlefield and sprays ink all around the map. The Inklings must climb up the metal bar and destroy the salmon to defeat this foe. The next new boss is something called the “Flipper Flopper.” It uses its metal mask to try and land its ink circle that we create on the map. However, if an Inkling inks the circle with their own color, the Flipper Floppers armor will come off. Once that is done, the Inkling can safely defeat it. Lastly, the new “Egg Throw” mechanic will be perfect for teamwork as you can now throw the salmon eggs that you must collect with your friends. This will greatly enhance the gamemode, as it was something players have wanted for a long time. The trailer ends with a huge salmon, whose name is unknown. Splatoon 3 will be released some time this summer. Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Mouthful Mode Kirby, is that you? Why yes, it is! In a last moment reveal, Kirby and the Forgotten land adds something really silly, as well as something really cool! Kirby can now eat things like cars and vending machines to gain new powers. This was a last minute reveal and the internet seems to be loving the funny looking Kirby car. Another new element revealed was the “Waddle Dee Town” a place that expands and grows as you save more Waddle Dees, a main type of character in the series. Lastly, users will be happy to take advantage of the upgraded abilities system. Classics like sword and cutter have new and improved forms that can do more and dish out a ton of damage. This is by far Kirby’s most expensive adventure yet, and it will release on March 25. Nintendo Switch Sports Clearly taking inspiration from the masterpiece “Wii Sports,” Nintendo Switch Sports aims to bring back the charm from Wii Sports. There are many sports included right out of the gate, like tennis, bowling, chambara (swordplay for those who know the game from Wii Sports), soccer, badminton and volleyball. Users can play all of these sports with people online. Lastly, a leg strap accessory for the Joy Con’s will be added for the soccer game, and golf will be added this fall. Nintendo Switch Sports comes out on April 29. Mario Kart 8: Booster Course Pass
Can’t get enough of the high speed racing action of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? Well, you are in luck, as loads of new courses will be added to the game soon enough! A new paid DLC (Downloadable Content) is coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. A total of 48 new courses will be added to the game, which will double the tracks from the base game. If that didn’t hype you up enough, the new courses are remastered versions from previous games! The first of the six-part DLC will come out on March 18. The rest of the courses will be released by the end of 2023. That covers the major news from the direct; however, there is so much more to uncover. I encourage you to check out the rest of what was been revealed, by clicking the link below. I hope you are hyped for these new games as much as I am! Nintendo Direct Showcase
