Young Frankenstein: In Case You Missed It

3/26/2018

By: Jessica Lipman

Musical talent, hilarious jokes, and raunchy puns are three words to describe Glenelg High School’s most recent production, Young Frankenstein. Originally created by actor, director, and composer Mel Brooks, students of the drama department have brought to life the story of Frederick Frankenstein, portrayed by Senior Jake Baker.

Beginning the comical night, Frederick Frankenstein discovers the death of his grandfather, Victor Frankenstein (Jared Rezeppa), and is called to Transylvania to inherit his grandfather’s estate. While arriving in Transylvania, Frederick meets Igor (Matthew Hulett) who introduces him to Inga (Mary Mae Robinson) and transports him to the castle of Victor Frankenstein. Arriving at their destination, the group meet Frau Blucher (Imani Nokuri) the housekeeper who reveals her love and previous relationship for Victor.
With the help of an upbeat performance by previous members of the Frankenstein business, Frederick decides to create another Monster (Torin Alexander), but there are complications along the way. As word spreads and the town learns of the creation of the Monster, the town plans to execute Frankenstein and the Monster. Disregarding the troubles and drama from the town, Frederick and Inga begin to pursue a romantic relationship, even though the doctor is engaged to Elizabeth (Allison Fitzgerald). Afterwards, the wife soon visits Transylvania to be reunited with her fiance. As things go terribly wrong and the Monster lashes out, the Monster kidnaps Elizabeth and takes her away, but while on their journey Elizabeth develops feelings for the Monster.
It is almost too late when the villagers declare to have Frederick murdered for creating the beast. When the villagers believe Frederick is deceased after their execution, the Monster returns and saves his life, which changes the town’s view of the Monster. The Monster then declares his love for Elizabeth just as well do Frederick and Inga declare their love for each other.
