If you want a suspenseful, bone-chilling, and unpredictable show to watch, The Following is for you. Warning: you won’t be able to stop watching. The Following, starring popular actor Kevin Bacon, puts a major spin on your typical crime show. The plot is centered around serial killer Joe Carroll, played by James Purefoy, who escapes prison and leaves the world in fear. However, after he carries out his escape mission, to murder one of his unconquered victims, he is quickly recaptured and imprisoned putting everyone back at ease. But when the FBI soon discovers that Joe Carroll has a network of followers assisting him outside of prison walls, it becomes clear that no one is safe.
Agent Ryan Hardy, played by Kevin Bacon, is the man who traced the murders back to Joe Carroll and initially caught him after his killing spree. Thus, Hardy becomes the lead investigator of the case, and a Joe Carroll expert. Carroll’s cult of psychotic followers exhibit an obsessive dedication to Joe, and are willing to do anything for him. You never know when a seemingly innocent character is, in fact, one of Joe’s many worshipers; trust no one. “It is so frustrating when a character grows on you and then they turn out to be on the other side,” said Senior Maddie McSally, a fan of the show. The show is filled with countless twists that will be sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. Senior Julia Herboldt, a fan of the show, said “When the show was first recommended to me I decided to give it a try. I ended up watching the whole first season that day”.
