Packed with five field hockey college commits and two lacrosse college commits, Glenelg’s new Field Hockey coach, Martha Dyer, didn’t have to do much to create a competitive fire at the start of the season.

Still, it is her positivity that is most responsible for the varsity team positioned as the top seed heading into next week’s playoffs with a 8-0 league record. The team has outscored league opponents 82-2 during that stretch.

Dedication, practice, and teamwork are the cornerstones of success in high school sports.

For the JV football team, these values were tested at the beginning of their season, as Howard County’s issues with bus availability had left players struggling to maintain their competitive edge.

Players, like freshman Liam Dunlop, said the challenges and frustrations of not being able to initially play weighed heavily on the team.

Living with someone who is your best friend and someone you look up to can be stressful when thinking about leaving each other for college.

But not for high school junior Brinkley Eyre.

Brinkley has grown up with her sister (AJ Eyre ‘24) and will continue to stay alongside her for her next four years of college.

Entering the new season, the Jets had built up a new energy and aura around the franchise, aided by their feature on HBO’s Hard Knocks. Running into the stadium, the players were surrounded by a level of energy that hasn’t been seen by a New York football team for years.

Unfortunately, this energy quickly evaporated when, after only four snaps into the 23-24 season, the Jets’ curse struck again (see Joe Namath) and the future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers exited with a full achilleas tear.

Since their opening win against the Bills, they have gone 2-3 with an impressive loss to the Super Bowl Chiefs and an impressive win against the Eagles. Despite this gut wrenching injury and the team’s precarious start, there is still some hope for the future of the Jets season.

Lionel Messi is arguably the greatest soccer player of all time.

He has 44 trophies to his name, including 4 Champions League titles and 12 league titles. He has scored 819 goals throughout his illustrious career and he’s been directly involved in well over 1,000. He already has a record breaking 7 Ballon D’or Awards to his name, which honors the best performing soccer player for that year. And he is already one of the favorites to win the prestigious award this year in December.

But he shouldn’t. Not when there is another player who has arguably performed at an even higher level: welcome to the conversation Erling Braut Haaland.

The 2023 Orioles were really special to watch this year.

I attended game 2 of the ALDS, and it was absolute hysteria. Built up frustration from the long rebuild was finally over as I, along with the rest of a rabidly hungry fan base, was ready for the exciting game.

Despite trailing by seven runs after the third inning, we were still in the game. The team's never-say-die-attitude defined the season. The fans did not stop cheering, even when the last out was recorded and the O's found themselves down 2-0 to the eventual ALDS champion Texas Rangers.

Still, there was something magical about watching, and experiencing,  how different the atmosphere was between regular season and postseason baseball. It's an atmosphere that O's fans certainly hope to repeat next year, and one that, despite the team's early playoff exit, we will all remember for quite some time.

Afterall, few anticipated that we would even make it to this moment at the beginning of the season.
