Should college athletes make money off of their fame? This was the debate until a recent policy was imposed to let college athletes profit off of their likeness and fame starting January 1st, 2023. This policy came as a surprise to many people considering the fact that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has been considering this, but never actually implemented it, until now. On Wednesday, November 11, 2019 the Washington Nationals won their first ever franchise World Series championship. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning the St. Louis Cardinals were down to their final out in game four of the National League Championship Series. Danial Hudson, the Nationals’ closer, threw the final pitch of the game which ultimately ended up in the glove of Victor Robles, the Nationals’ center fielder. On October 4th at 7:41 PM, Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey tweeted an image supporting the citizens of Hong Kong who are fighting for freedom from the Chinese government. This tweet was quickly deleted, and Morey apologized for his actions. Despite the apology, China canceled the streaming of all Houston Rockets games in China. This further extended to China’s television network, the CCTV, refusing to stream any NBA preseason games. China also told NBA commissioner Adam Silver that Morey must be fired and completely removed from all interactions with the league, which the NBA refused to do. By Tegan Swope and Chase Campbell
The Glenelg Gladiators football team finished their regular season with a record of 6-3. After many challenging games, the team is confident that they are well prepared for the start of the playoffs. Like all teams, their primary goal is to make it to the state championship. All coaches, players, and fans have high hopes for the teams success. |
